Generalized Dpw Method and an Application to Isometric Immersions of Space Forms

چکیده
Let G be a complex Lie group and ΛG denote the group of maps from the unit circle S into G, of a suitable class. A differentiable map F from a manifold M into ΛG, is said to be of connection order (ba) if the Fourier expansion in the loop parameter λ of the S-family of Maurer-Cartan forms for F , namely F λ dFλ, is of the form P b i=a αiλ . Most integrable systems in geometry are associated to such a map. Roughly speaking, the DPW method used a Birkhoff type splitting to reduce a harmonic map into a symmetric space, which can be represented by a certain order ( −1 ) map, into a pair of simpler maps of order ( −1 ) and ( 1 ) respectively. Conversely, one could construct such a harmonic map from any pair of ( −1 ) and ( 1 ) maps. This allowed a Weierstrass type description of harmonic maps into symmetric spaces. We extend this method to show that, for a large class of loop groups, a connection order (ba) map, for a < 0 < b, splits uniquely into a pair of ( −1 a ) and ( b 1 ) maps. As an application, we show that constant non-zero sectional curvature submanifolds with flat normal bundle of a sphere or hyperbolic space split into pairs of flat submanifolds, reducing the problem (at least locally) to the flat case. To extend the DPW method sufficiently to handle this problem requires a more general Iwasawa type splitting of the loop group, which we prove always holds at least locally.

Curved Flats, Pluriharmonic Maps and Constant Curvature Immersions into Pseudo-riemannian Space Forms
We study two aspects of the loop group formulation for isometric immersions with flat normal bundle of space forms. The first aspect is to examine the loop group maps along different ranges of the loop parameter. This leads to various equivalences between global isometric immersion problems among different space forms and pseudoRiemannian space forms. As a corollary, we obtain a non-immersibili...
متن کاملLegendrian Warped Product Submanifolds in Generalized Sasakian Space Forms
Recently, K. Matsumoto and I. Mihai established a sharp inequality for warped products isometrically immersed in Sasakian space forms. As applications, they obtained obstructions to minimal isometric immersions of warped products into Sasakian space forms. P. Alegre, D.E. Blair and A. Carriazo have introduced the notion of generalized Sasakian space form. In the present paper, we obtain a sharp...
متن کاملAn Existence Theorem for G-structure Preserving Affine Immersions
We prove an existence result for local and global G-structure preserving affine immersions between affine manifolds. Several examples are discussed in the context of Riemannian and semi-Riemannian geometry, including the case of isometric immersions into Lie groups endowed with a left-invariant metric, and the case of isometric immersions into products of space forms.
متن کاملSpherical Minimal Immersions of Spherical Space Forms
Introduction. A number of authors [C], [DW1], [DW2], [L], [T] have studied minimal isometric immersions of Riemannian manifolds into round spheres, and in particular of round spheres into round spheres. As was observed by T. Takahashi [T], if Φ:M → S(r) ⊂ R is such a minimal immersion, then the components of Φ must be eigenfuctions of the Laplace operator on M for the same eigenvalue. And conve...
متن کاملGrassmann Geometries in Infinite Dimensional Homogeneous Spaces and an Application to Reflective Submanifolds
Let U be a real form of a complex semisimple Lie group, and τ , σ, a pair of commuting involutions on U . This data corresponds to a reflective submanifold of a symmetric space, U/K. We define an associated integrable system, and describe how to produce solutions from curved flats. The solutions are shown to correspond to various special submanifolds, depending on which homogeneous space U/L on...
